Light + Turning: a solstice circle

For the longest time, our family has honoured the Solstice. Whether that’s the winter solstice, the dark creeping in near 4pm, the light escaping behind the trees, winking as it disappears; or the summer solstice, when the evening stretches ahead and the light is here until almost 9pm, giving us delightful long evenings to play in.

Whichever solstice it is, we’ve had a small tradition on each one.

For winter solstice, we have ‘candle night’ where as the dark draws in we don’t turn on the lights, rather we light candles so we can better experience the dark.

Its velvety shadow creeps in during the afternoon, our candles barely hold it at bay, and we eat soup with crusty bread, our faces glowing in the candlelight. I read a couple of favourite winter tales to my family before we head to bed. everyone still loves this even though our kids are both grown now, young adults who are out doing their thing in the world.

And for summer solstice, we spend as long as possible outdoors, marvelling at the length of the day. We examine what we’ve done over the last 6 months and write down what it is we’re leaving behind as we begin to turn inwards, towards the dark again.

Setting fire to these (safely!) at this point of the year feels cleansing, and we then bring our wishes for the coming months into our hearts, knowing that they’ll incubate and grow during the dark of the year that’s on its way.

Marking these times of year gives a feeling of knowing the rhythms of our lives outside the daily grind, a connection to something greater than ourselves and an anchoring into our humanity.

Now, more than ever, it’s important to remember these practices, to give ourselves time to reflect and to be with ourselves. So we can do our work in the world that we’re here to do.

Light + Turning is a gently held Solstice circle I’ve created for you to step out of the busy-ness of everyday life and come home to yourself.

It’s not a webinar. Not a class. Not another thing on your calendar to “get to.”

This is a space to arrive as you are.

We’ll meet online at Solstice, but the work is anything but digital. It’s deep, inward, and real. Together, we’ll gather in sacred rhythm, honouring the turning point between light + dark – a natural time to reflect, release, and reorient.

Before you even step into the circle, the energetic container will be in place.
The invitation itself is part of the turning.
By the time we begin, your soul will have already started softening toward clarity.

Inside the 90-minute circle, you’ll be gently guided through seasonal reflection, intuitive journaling, and an attunement process to help you listen to what wants to emerge next, not from pressure, but from truth.

You’ll be among others walking this same path; people who value depth over noise, and who feel the call to live more intentionally.

Not performatively, not perfectly, but soulfully.

If you’re craving recalibration…
If you’ve been quietly holding a question in your chest about what’s next…
If you simply want a real moment to hear yourself again…

This is your invitation to step into circle with me.

We’ll meet on Friday, June 20th at 8pm AEST/Melbourne time, as close to Solstice as the weekdays allow. And together, we’ll mark this turning in a way that feels sacred, nourishing, and true.

I hope I see you there.

Shamanism, patriarchy and the rise of women supporting women

I've begun having shamanic mentoring with Shaman Iris Meyer, and it's been such a great experience.  Shamanism has answered questions I didn't know I had, and confirmed things that I always knew at the very same time.  I've always said that your imagination...

Exhausted, done + want to change everything?

How to write your way out of a slump You don’t need a new gym membership.  Or a new haircut.  If you’re feeling exhausted, done with doing the same thing over and over and not getting anywhere, if you just want something to change, I get it.  I’ve felt...

This is not who we are

I’m seeing a lot of media and social media posts calling the perpetrators of the act of terrorism that at current count has killed 16 people in Bondi Beach on Sunday 14th December 2025 ‘evil’. Calling this act ‘evil’ puts a distance between us and the people doing the...
