If you didn’t know, I am a Eurovision tragic.
I try to tell myself that I’m moderate, but a friend recently pointed out that I can’t call myself moderate when:
- Going to see Eurovision in person is on my bucket list,
- I create Eurovision bingo cards for friends and family to use,
- I created a group on social media for Eurovision buddies to hang out, and
- I’m getting up at 5am on Sunday to watch the Grand Final LIVE! (OMG I am so excited!)
So I’m here with that as my confession: I am a TOTAL Eurovision tragic. I just love it.
And that got me thinking: WHY do I love it so much?
I have an answer for that too.
It’s because it’s full of humans being creative. Doing their thing.
The songs are related because they’re all ‘songs’, but they are such a flourishing of creatitivy, inspiration, zaniness and whimsy that I am in awe every time I watch.
They’re a great flowering of human spirit, in all its forms.
They’re silly for the sake of making us laugh.
They’re poignant for the sake of making us feel.
They explore the heights and depths of the human experience.
And then someone sings about wolves eating bananas and makes everyone laugh again.
And not to strain a metaphor, but we’re here to experience our humanity, in all its forms.
Your book or artwork or creative endeavour is as worthy as anyone else’s.
It’ll land where it’s meant to land.
And it will reach the people who need to see it, read it, hear it, feel it or watch it.
Or not, if you don’t want to share. Your art is yours, and it’s as much about finding out what’s inside you as it is about sharing in some way.
